Keeping Chickens and Planting Vegetable Gardens
Keeping chickens and planting a vegetable garden work very well together, because you can use vegetable scraps to feed the chickens, and the chicken manure to fertilise the vegetables.
If you get this going well you can produce a large portion of the fresh eggs and vegetables that you eat, at home! That's going to take a large chunk off your grocery bill, and it's also very satisfying knowing you can produce your own food.
But be careful, chickens love vegetable scraps, and if they can get access to your vegetable patch, they will eat them before they get a chance to grow big enough to be picked!
The best way is to limit your chickens to build a chicken run or put up a simple fence of chicken wire, or some other type of wire fencing around the veggie patch, watch out though, it can be surprising what chickens can figure out!
So you may need to upgrade your fencing if your chickens start trying to get over it.
